The Aqualads are a traditional Surf Quartet from Charlotte North Carolina. Their set consists mainly of traditional surf covers with originals thrown in from time to time as they "mature". The Aqualads have stayed true to their origins and to the origins of Surf music in general. They play Fender Gear Exclusively, and have been known to employ the "Aquanettes" their GO-GO dancers. Their first release was a Christmas 7" titled "Aqualads XMAS" and was recorded in a basement on a Tascam Reel-to-Reel. Chip Baker appeared on the 7 " courtesy of the Belmont Playboys, a then-local Rockabilly band. They continued on to create their first CD "HOTBOX" at Pendulum Recording Studios in Charlotte(http://www.liketelevision.com), and the next year went on to make "REVENGE", the Aqualads tour-de-force and newest CD. With "Revenge" the Aqualads have showcased their unique traditionally-flavored surf songwriting and playing techniques. The band is currently undergiong some re-structuring and will be ready to play in early April with a 3rd guitarist, making it a 5 piece. When asked about the recent change-up Jimmy King said "We wanted to do more stuff than we were able to, so we decided to promote Jeremy (the Aqualads Bassplayer) to ryhthm guitar. He's really good at filling up the bottom end and it's just what we needed. It frees us up to do any cover we want and the originals are really taking off too!". Jimmy said you can expect another CD from the Aqualads in the last Quarter of 2000 or in early 2001.
